What Is Freedom?
For many, it is found in the Bill of Rights, the Constitution and the Statue of Liberty. As individuals who embrace freedom, we seek to rise above the political oppression, burdensome regulation, civil injustice, unfair taxation and restrictions on the free market and individual choice that impact us in this world today. And while these political symbols of freedom provide the framework for our freedoms, it’s human achievement that truly sets us free.
Freedom Rising transcends political freedom. Freedom Rising isn’t just a political revolution, it’s the Boston marathoner rising above tragedy to compete with a flexible prosthetic… or the injured Marine doing pushups on one arm and leg… or the cancer survivor selecting a variety of tools for her prosthetic arm… or the businesswoman working from home with a laptop and a cellphone. It’s the black student rising above prejudice, or the Ethiopian villager rising above blindness (as seen in Vision, the award-winning documentary presented at the 2015 Anthem Film Festival). It’s rising above poverty, rising above health issues, rising above injustice; it’s rising above one’s own prejudices and weaknesses to see things in a different way.
Come to FreedomFest 2016, July 13-16, where Freedom is Rising, as our speakers and attendees imagine a great new tomorrow through technology and innovation in the arts, communication, energy, science, medicine, education, wealth-building and investing, as well as political understanding.
