Dominica geothermal project evaluates three proposals for plant technology

At a meeting in Dominica (Caribbean Islands), the Blue & Green Economy minister Fidel Grant said that the Dominican geothermal development company continues to move towards building its own geothermal power station on the island.

Recently, trials at a production well in Laudat have been completed. For the first time since June 2014, thorough research and testing were carried out, and the well showed the potential for powering a 7 MW power plant.

Three proposals were received in the bidding process for the supply of a power plant. Now all these proposals are being evaluated by the committee to prepare the next steps.

Although an electricity purchase agreement (PPA) has been signed between the company and DOMLEC, the final approval of this decision is the only unfulfilled condition that has not been completed.

The currently planned 7 MW power plant is seen as the first step, and in the future, it is planned to build a larger power station, which could also allow the government to sell electricity to neighboring islands.
