Greece closes immigration offices because of Coronavirus

Greek Ministers decided that from 12/03/2020 to 10/04/2020 immigration services will be temporarily closed. This decision was made as a deterrent to the spread of coronavirus. No new visa applications will be accepted, including gold visas.

“Taking into account the need to take measures to protect public health in order to prevent and limit the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), infrastructure is suspended,” the decision said.

As for residence permits, if the validity period expires during the period of validity of the measures taken, then it will be impossible to extend them. Therefore, Greece will set a deadline for applying for a renewal of a residence permit.

Because of this, the department continues to accept documents by mail from third-country nationals who send their documents directly by registered mail or through courier companies.

An important amendment: third-country nationals legally residing in the country will have to leave after the expiration of the residence permit. Citizens who enter the country with any other visa cannot submit new applications.
