The new color of the British passport after leaving Brexit

The UK government said that from the beginning of March 2020, old-style passports are being returned. Now instead of red-burgundy, there will be blue with gold stamping.

“Leaving the European Union gave us a unique opportunity to restore our national identity and forge a new path in the world.By returning to the iconic blue and gold design, the British passport will once again be entwined with our national identity and I cannot wait to travel on one”, said Home Secretary Priti Patel.

New passports are made to maximize data security. So, a page with information about the British subject will be made of the same material as bulletproof glass - polycarbonate. The back of the cover will feature emblems of England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, new passports are even more difficult to fake, because they will be made "the latest and most secure printing and design methods."

Since March 2019, the UK has already begun issuing passports without the inscription “European Union”, which is part of the process of changing the design of British passports.

Great Britain became part of the European community, which subsequently became the basis for the European Union, in 1973. In 1975, following a referendum, the kingdom confirmed its membership in the EU. The official exit of Great Britain from the European Union took place on January 31.
