Egypt Launches New Citizenship By Investment Program

In March 2020, the Egyptian government published Parliamentary Law No. 190. This is the law on obtaining Egyptian citizenship by investment.

 

The Egyptian government has established a special unit within the Prime Minister's Office to oversee the entire Citizenship by Investment (CIP) process.

 

In order to apply for participation, investors need to prepare the necessary documents and pay state fees of 10,000 US dollars.

 

Egypt offers a variety of investment options.

 

Option number 1: Investing in real estate.

An investor can purchase one or more properties that must be owned by a government project with a minimum investment of US$ 500,000

 

Option number 2: Company establishment.

The investor can set up a new company or invest in a previously established company in Egypt. In this case, you must invest at least US$ 400,000, and the investor must have at least 40% company shares. This is in line with the rules and regulations set out in Investment Law No. 72, adopted in 2017

 

Option number 3: Donation.

The investor can make a non-refundable contribution to the Citizenship by Investment Unit at the Central Bank of Egypt in the amount of US$ 250,000.

 

Option number 4: Deposit investment program (bank deposit).

In this case, the investor has two options:

  • Make a bank deposit of US$ 750,000, which is refundable after 5 years in the local currency of Egypt without interest

Or

  • Make a bank deposit of US$ 1 million with a return after 3 years in local Egyptian currency without interest.

 

According to the rules of the Central Bank of Egypt, all investments must be transferred from abroad in US dollars.

 

As for the documents, in addition to the main ones, the country requests:

  1. Personal documents of the main applicant;

  2. Personal documents of spouse and dependants;

  3. Non-criminal record certificate;

  4. Comprehensive medical report;

  5. Documents proving sources of income and wealth.
