Malta has published the 2019 Individual Investor Program (IIP) Annual Report

The report noted that from July 2018 to June 2019, there is a tendency to decrease the number of applications for obtaining Maltese citizenship as part of the individual investor program in Malta due to high competition with other programs and bad publicity.

During the reporting period, 311 applications were received, of which 79% of the applicants were men. In total, 237 applications were approved, 115 were refused.

Malta citizenship is most popular among European countries: 144 applications (46.3%). Next comes Asia 102 applications (32.8%) and the Middle East 34 applications (10.9%).

Regarding employment status:

  • Self-employed - 119 applicants (53.8%)

  • Employed - 79 applicants (35.8%)

  • Non-economically active - 23 applicants (10.4%)

As in the previous year, the main age group of naturalized main applicants ranged from 45 to 64 years (59.3%), followed by people in the 25–44 years old group (33.9%), and those whose age is 65 years or more (6.3%). It can be noted that there was also one naturalized main applicant under the age of 25 years.

From the moment the program existed, until June 30, 2019, a total of 1.2 billion euros were raised, 1,742 applications received, 1,198 applications approved
